Ubisoft Explains Why Many New Games Are Struggling to Earn Well

Ubisoft: There is a massive change happening in the gaming industry, and that has been confirmed by Ubisoft recently. The close observation of how trends are changing and audiences are choosing different things hasn’t gone unnoticed from a game developer like Ubisoft’s eyes as well.

The company has recently talked about how many new games are struggling to collect revenue. And this statement is not just news but something to study and take notes on to understand what’s happening in the world of gaming.

Ubisoft talks about the concerning change in the world of online gaming!

Since the past year, Ubisoft has witnessed a massive change in the gaming industry. While laying off its multiple employees, the company has discovered how the online gaming industry is suffering at the hands of decreased demands.

Recently, Ubisoft has shared its observation that people have stopped playing games like they used to. The graph of new gamers across the globe is slowly going downwards, and that is not a good sign to witness.

The company has made a statement that many new titles and games from older series are unable to make good revenue. They are not able to sustain their buyers or bring in a new audience. And this has a great effect on the overall revenue of the global online gaming market.

More on the Ubisoft observation

Although the exact reason for this change has not been mentioned by the company, it surely has mentioned something else. In a new UK financial filing—thanks, CityAM—Ubisoft has shared that the major population of gamers are shifting towards the subscription services, longer-running games, free-to-play games, and cloud streaming.

The reason stated by the company is the change in the ways of selling these games. While traditionally, video games were sold in a one-time deal at a fixed price, today, people have to pay different prices to play a different part or version of it. That too on different platforms.

This has brought a major burnout in gamers. Resulting in a change of taste and preferences of the end user. And this has brought a great change in the industry’s revenue, as nowadays, even many big titles are struggling to sell their games at a decent number, let alone the small ones.

Ending the remark on a sad note, the company has stated that users have started playing fewer games. Maybe they are more focused on other things. Or they have filtered out their preferences with smartly understand which game is meant for them and which is not.

Possible reasons why the global gaming industry is seeing a decline in its customers

Here are some of the possible and relatively common reasons why many people are shifting away from online gaming.

  1. The OG gaming generation has grown up, and the new generation doesn’t find video games as appealing as their elders used to do.
  2. There are multiple other hobbies that people have picked up over time. This includes sports, reading books, travelling, etc., which has pushed the gaming hobby down in the line.
  3. Online gaming has become a lot more expensive than it used to be. Be it the price of games, maintaining gaming consoles, or keeping all your gaming equipment in good working condition, all this requires a lot of money that people are usually unable to afford.
  4. There are so many new options in the market that it makes selection difficult. On top of that, most of these games are less attractive with repetitive gameplay and storylines.
  5. Ever since the invention of social media, people have become more social. They started to go out more rather than staying at home all the time and playing games.
