Online Gaming Act Aftereffects: After the GOI imposed Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, to ban real money gaming, things have become difficult for multiple companies. The Act has directly hit the profits of multiple businesses, resulting in a huge loss of assets of these companies.

Recently, Zupee, an Indian real-money-based online gaming platform, founded in 2018, has declared the lay-off of as many as 170 employees of the company. According to sources, this contributes to 30% of their workforce, which is on the verge of becoming unemployed as the after effect of the online gaming Act.

Online Gaming Act Aftereffects: There’s more to it.

With a blanket ban on real money gaming and the GOI dismissing banks from processing any transactions related to online games, many companies are forced to change the way they work in the world of online gaming business.

While some are facing major challenges, many big real-money online gaming companies are seeing it as an opportunity to push themselves to do something new, better, and different.

Amid this ongoing debate and challenges, Zupee laying off 170 employees doesn’t come out as a shock. But what’s more interesting is, according to sources, Zupee has assured that they are trying to engage their business in more ventures that comply with the ever-changing online gaming rules. And once that is done, the need for more staff will arise. According to sources, Zupee will ensure its first priority will be to hire the laid-off staff.

To rebuild a new model of its business that is more advanced, culturally rooted, and has online entertainment products more than just gaming, it needed to take this tough decision of mass firing. But they haven’t done this without providing support packages to their laid off employees. This includes financial assistance, health insurance, and career support packages for the parting employees.
