Batman Game: Recently, the footage from the cancelled Batman game has surfaced online, and the internet has gone crazy over it. The archival footage reveals details about Monolith Productions’ cancelled Batman game from the early 2000s. The footage offer a glimpse into what could have been a groundbreaking Dark Knight experience before the project was shelved.
What’s inside the unseen footage of the cancelled Batman game?
The recently revealed archived footage of the Batman game has taken the internet through a storm because of the game content that it revealed. The footage contained audio systems, character art, game mechanics, vehicles, and much more from Monolith’s Cancelled Batman Game. All this data gave a hit about how amazing the game could have been if it were released.
This is not the first time that such data has been leaked online about this game. Such incidents related to the Monolith’s Cancelled Batman Game have been taking place for quite some time now. For instance, last year also, we saw concept art and other potential footage from the cancelled Damian Batman game by WB Games Montreal.
But this time, it is a shocker, majorly because the leaked data hinted at a missed opportunity and fans are heartbroken about the same.
I've recovered a cache of documents and videos from the pre-production phase of Project Apollo, a canceled Batman game Monolith worked on for Warner Bros. The materials, from 4/2009 to 1/2010, were in deleted sectors of a HDD used at a game company.archive.org/details/proj… 1/9🧵
How did this document leak take place?
The details of this cancelled project surfaced online because MrTalida on BlueSky decided to talk about it. Through a series of posts, a little footage from the internal-facing and Warner Bros.-facing pre-production milestone deliverables and a few files from an actual build have been shared in these posts.
Starting from Batman himself, the leaked footage shows how Batman’s cape was designed to always move around while walking. Talking more about what was inside this footage, one of them showed how the game’s music was designed to react in the transitions. As the player moves in and out of stealth, enters combat, and plays quests, the music is supposed to react to it in a specific way.
While these many details had already created a thrill among Batman’s fanbase, other leaked footage showed more of what the then released game could have been. For example, one video showed how a caped crusader threw Batarangs to knock enemies down.
He also used smoke bombs to enter stealth and used detective mode to collect evidence for his search. The footage also showed character art for Gordon and members of the Gotham police, along with a facial animation test.
As many as 9 posts were shared to reveal some of the details from the leaked footage from the recently discovered archived files of the Monolith’s Cancelled Batman Game. Too many details to create a sense of thrill and sadness among the gaming community worldwide.
Here's a series of videos showing various game mechanics at play, like completing a quest, knocking an enemy out, throwing smoke bombs, basic combat, and AI navigation. Again, this is very, very early stuff.8/9
Why did Monolith cancel the Batman video game production?
In case you don’t know about this news, and you are wondering why the Monolith Batman Game ever got canceled? Let us break this down for you.
There were not just 1 but multiple reasons why this game got cancelled. Even though many other Batman games were released and are still coming out to date.
Firstly, Christopher Nolan, the director of all Batman games, never fully approved of this project. The game was a part of the concept of his movies, but he was more interested in making the movies rather than engaging in the production of Batman games.
Secondly, after not getting enough support from Christopher Nolan, Warner Bros. also gave thought to the project and decided to shelf it. That’s because multiple other Batman-titled games were under production and were supposed to release soon. According to the reports, this could have had a huge effect on the sales of Monolith’s Batman sales. Therefore, Warner Bros. itself decided to drop the plan of releasing the game whose archived footage you are not viewing.
Lastly, even Monolith Productions decided to move away from the dicey project and focused more on other work. Therefore, a game that could have been a masterpiece was dropped due to creative differences and lack of mutual interest.
