YouTube Playables: 2025 has been the year when every platform, every website, and every big company has introduced its own AI tool. Some have also adapted to the already existing AI tools that are famous and reliable.
Talking of AI, another news is coming where AI has been introduced to another app. We are talking about YouTube. Yesterday, YouTube made an official announcement on its X handle (formerly Twitter), declaring its next move to encourage Gemini 3 tool in its gaming content creation.

YouTube gaming enters world of Gemini content creation
YouTube is sort of promoting AI by announcing an open beta for a project called Playables Builder. In this Playables Builder, YouTube is going to select a few YouTube creators who will be able to create bite-sized games.
These bite-sized games will be created using a prototype web app built using Gemini 3. The interesting thing to note here is that this game creation will not require any coding. Just AI created ready-to-play games.
Talking about how this idea emerged, we need to look back at the past few years of YouTube. Two years back in 2023, YouTube tested the addition of small-scale games to its desktop and mobile platforms. Last year, in 2024, it added multiplayer capability to Playables.
And in 2025, it is introducing AI-generative games by select YouTubers that don’t require coding at all. And since AI is gradually appearing all over Google-owned and other services as well, this news shouldn’t be a surprise but rather something that everyone was already expecting.

But the problem here is not AI’s intervention in game development. It is how companies and brands are underestimating the role of game developers. While AI makes work easier and gets it done in no time, it is the hard work behind any project that brings it success.
Having proper knowledge about game development is as crucial as having an idea to create one. It takes a lot to develop a game that is not just existing but is also liked and played by the masses. After all, successful game development requires finesse, iteration and skill so that it can be a fun experience while playing it.
That is why many game developers are not really happy with this news.
