Does Mistfall Hunter Really Live Up to the Reviews?

Action role-playing games that are covered in the layers of dark fantasy always attract a lot of players worldwide. Gamers and critics usually love games that excite their inner explorer and make them want to play the game as soon as it launches. This surely makes the launch day earnings of the game boom with multiple downloads. But not all of them are able to keep up with the momentum. But that is not the case with Mistfall Hunter. The game has started well, got amazing reviews, and is also keeping the hype alive. But, are the reviews true? Is the game really worth it? Let us quickly find out!

What makes Mistfall Hunter worth the hype?

A new take on combat mechanics

Do you know what soulslike combat is? Because if you don’t, then you should learn about it before playing this game. The soulslike combat is a methodical style of action gameplay. This gameplay is defined by three key elements: naming, stamina management, animation commitment, and pattern memorization. This combat mechanic requires precise action timing more than your physical button movement. And this exciting difficulty in the game is what brings in more and more players to play, enjoy and appreciate Mistfall Hunter.

Because of soulslike combat, every dodge, parry, block, and heavy attack in the game matters to deliver precise action for it. There’s melee combat, magical abilities, and weapon mastery everywhere in the game. All this makes every duel feel personal and the entire game a worthy ARPG.

Mistfall Hunter has a gameplay that creates tension

We have dug deeper into the user reviews and if reviews are to be believed, the game is getting tagged as something that creates tension in the gameplay. This tension comes from the fact that a player has a lot to do or he/she will lose everything. This is how the game works:

  • The player ventures into dangerous regions
  • Players defeating monsters
  • Players gathering valuable loot
  • Players attempt to extract everything before everything gets taken away from them.

But who takes away their valuable loot that they carry out with so much effort? The opponents. And there is not just one opponent. In fact, since the game supports multiplayer co-op. This means other solo players or rival three-player squads compete for the same resources, loot, and extraction points. Just like it happens in PvP games.

Apart from PvP, there is also PvE-based tension or rival Gyldhunters. Corrupted creatures, elite monsters, and challenging world bosses scattered across the map. So, the E in PvE stands for enemies. Basically, before your opponents, rivals, enemies, or the environment itself bring you down to zero from everything that you have looted in the game, you have to run for your life and win! Solo or with your squad. And if they kill you, and you fail to recover your corpse, the game is over for you. Which is why its tension-creating gameplay has become talk of the gaming town.

Mistfall Hunter Review

Atmospheric setting that is dark and sometimes disturbing

Like we mentioned earlier, the game is set in a gothic fantasy world which is appealing in itself. The dark atmosphere where monsters are running behind players, the villages that are completely ruined and have corrupted landscapes, the gothic castle wrapped with mystery and thrill. While the environmental setting of the game doesn’t have an active role in the gameplay, it still attracts players and excites them. All the gothic elements and eerie setting of the game have invited a lot of praise for it from critics and worldwide gamers. No doubt if we had all the time in the world, we would like to experience some adventure in a fantasy world that has an environment setting like that of Mistfall Hunter.

Class concept that makes the game unique and interesting

If you have already played Mistfall Hunter, you will know how the game offers a variety of classes. The classes, or you can understand them as different levers or worlds, have so much to offer to the player. There are six distinct classes in the game. Each class offers unique skills, talents, and gameplay styles. You have the freedom to choose which class you want to play and can also customize it according to your liking. Whether you are looking for heavy melee tanks, agile assassins, ranged archers, spellcasters, or support-focused characters, you can get them all according to your liking in the class that you love to play the most.

Here are the names of the six different classes offered by Mistfall Hunter and their unique features, which became the reason for the game’s huge likability among players:

  1. Mercenary: A frontline melee fighter with strong defense.
  2. Sorcerer: A magical damage dealer who uses elements or stardust for area attacks.
  3. Blackarrow: A mobile ranged archer specialized in distance pressure.
  4. Shadowstrix: A stealthy assassin with quick critical strikes.
  5. Seer: A support role who provides shields and healing.
  6. Withered Knight: A versatile hybrid fighter that offers both offense and defense.

Now, when the game has this many unique concepts to offer, getting good reviews from everywhere is not a shock at all.

The performance that didn’t perform!

Not an ideal game for new players

Remember all the new elements in the game that we have mentioned above? Like the Soulslike combat and extraction game mechanics? They are something that only experienced gamers can understand. These gameplay mechanics are not for someone who has never tried them and that is a drawback for Mistfall Hunter. According to the critics, this part of the game is being considered as a steep learning curve for new or inexperienced gamers. That’s because they may find the first several hours overwhelming. This might come from inventory management, class progression, extraction mechanics, and difficult combat in the game.

Multiplayer limitation

The game is also considered a challenge for solo players. There’s so much to do in the game that it is only enjoyable in PvP mode and not enjoyed solo. The multiplayer part is surpassing the solo player part because Mistfall Hunter has successfully brought together a lot of different genres and gameplay mechanics that can be complicated to handle alone. While all this is otherwise commendable and enjoyable, from the perspective of a solo player, it is an inconvenience. Which is not fueled just by the game’s development but also from a player’s perspective. After all, not everyone belongs to a gamer community and not all players have enough friends to enjoy a 3V3 players game thoroughly.

The gameplay feels repetitive after some point.

According to the reviews, the core gameplay of Mistfall Hunter is a loop. This is good for those who like to play a game again and again and excel in it. But pro players who are veterans in this field don’t need to play a game again and again to understand and excel in it. And this is where the reviews got divided and complicated.
Limited content at launch with repetitive maps and objectives was unappealing to many gamers. They enjoyed the game initially but got bored with it gradually. This dropped the long-term engagement of the game and brought some critical reviews and ratings as well.

The technical glitches

Just like every other game, Mistfall Hunter too had some technical glitches. If you play the game or just visit the user reviews, the game has been reported by many players for multiple reasons. These include frame drops and occasional stuttering. Some players even faced optimization issues depending on the hardware they were using.
