New OGAI Advisory Seeks to Limit Real Money Games Online?

On Wednesday, 29th July 2026, the OGAI, or Online Gaming Authority of India, issued an advisory. It directed multiple platforms and entities and entitling them to completely ban real money games from their systems. The OGAI advisory was short and clear with its instructions, indicating its intentions clearly. They want games that involve gambling to be removed everywhere. This comes a year after the promotion and regulation of gaming act 2025.

What’s in the OGAI advisory?

Signed by T. Santhosh, Secretary, OGAI, the OGAI advisory issued on 29th July 2026 cites Sections 5, 6 and 7 of the PROG Act 2025. According to this, any entity found offering, facilitating, advertising, or financially enabling online money games will be considered guilty for violating the Promotion and Regulation of Gaming Act 2025.

This new advisory comes after it came to the government’s notice that the PROG Act 2025 is not being followed seriously by some platforms. Despite a complete blanket ban implemented on real money games since 2nd August 2025. Offshore betting and gambling platforms continue to attract and involve Indian users.

Meanwhile, the action also got supprted by ground 0 surveys. Shocking pieces of data have been recovered which forced the governmant to take this decision. For instance, the data shows the initial 68.3% usage of RMG jumped to 82% after the implementation of PROG Act 2025. Furthermore, the Delhi NCR survey also found a surge from 3.4% to 42.3%. This surge of users was found in the daily access of RMG in India.

Which entities have been included in the OGAI advisory?

The new advisory by the Online Gaming Authority of India includes multiple entities. All these are now directly prohibited from violating the PROG Act 2025. The list of entities includes:

• OTT platforms
• Advertising agencies
• Cloud service providers
• Application stores
• Telecom and Internet service providers
• Social media intermediaries
• Banks and financial institutions
• Any entity facilitating financial transactions or authorizing funds for real money games.

In addition, according to the latest advisory by OGAI, these entities must not be found supporting RMG activities. For instance, if they were found either directly or indirectly involved in RMG, they will be liable to face punishment. Consequently under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Games Act 2025. To conclude, hosting real-money game events or advertising any such activities by anyone will be seen as a breach of the government’s orders.

Quoting sections 5, 6, and 7 of the PROG Act 2025 for reference

Section 5 of PROG Act 2025

“Prohibition of online money game and online money gaming service.—No person shall offer, aid, abet, induce or otherwise indulge or engage in the offering of online money game and online money gaming service.”

Section 6 of PROG Act 2025

“Prohibition of advertisement related to online money game.—No person shall make, cause to be made, aid, abet, induce, or otherwise be involved in the making or causing to be made any advertisement, in any media including electronic means of communication, which directly or indirectly promotes or induces any person to play any online money game or indulge in any activity promoting online money 4game.”

Section 7 of PROG Act 2025

“Prohibition of transfer of fund.— No bank, financial institution, or any other person facilitating financial transactions or authorisation of funds shall engage in, permit, aid, abet, induce or otherwise facilitate any transaction or authorisation of funds towards payment for any online money gaming service.”

Under these three sections of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025, the offender is liable to be punished. As a result, based on the laws that they break, all the entities now come directly under target. Everyone has to obey the OGAI advisory or face the consequences as per the law.
